It looks like pea gravel. If I can find a smaller size (4-8 mm) gravel product at a landscaping/home improvement store (at 1/10th the price!), is there any reason not to get it? Is there anything special about what gets sold as “Aquarium gravel” for premium prices? Are landscaping/paving gravels potentially too dirty, too much sand, contaminated etc. that I should be worried about? I’ll be using this as part of an UGF. I’ll pay a premium for aquarium gravel if it is better, but so far it seems worse at least as far as sizes available.
