in reply to trailblazur ……. Just the recommendations of the various manufacturers. Worms are a very slow moving infection while bacterial infections are very fast moving. Thus the difference.

Michael …….. I’m in the USA so I have no idea about Australian medication availability. Sorry. In the USA I’d just buy some Prazipro fish dewormer.

I’m guessing these are tapeworm. What is the best way to get medication for this(in Australia)?
Just use human worming tablets?
Or dog/cat?
Thanks.

In reply to Agate ….. Many thanks for the heads up. I have added the following: “There are some studies of Praziquantel (Norbury 2022) which show PZQ to be effective against cestodes when used as a bath treatment. Most of the fish involved were known mulm eaters, like the grass carp. The mechanism is that PZQ is insoluble in water. When added to water as a powder or as a solution in alcohol it precipitates into the mulm where it is ingested.”

In reply to J ….. Treatment is difficult and typically involves pipetting or shallow baths. More about it can be found at the following article: http://tankstartguide.com/index.php/11-15-fish-not-eating/

We have eight new puffers and need to deworm asap. Two are thin and one of these is not eating. We’re very concerned for the little guy. Thanks!!
