Threw em in my porch pond. Got ick.(yes I know better damn it. Just stupid on my part and I paid for it) treated the pond for ick. Saved one fish lost my other one. Very bummed and kicking myself over it. Knew the fish I lost was not doing well but first day of hunting season was here and I had plans to go camping. Got back and the fish has died. Removed her. But her buddy has black spots all over him now. I don’t believe it’s genetic there new. And like someone dotted him with a black marker. If anyone would like to offer their experience please email. In reply to Ignacio ……. Any medication will rarely eliminate the fluke infestation completely so don’t be surprised to see flukes still in the mucus. You are depending on healthy fish to keep the infestation under control.

I have 10 butterfly telescope in quarantine and they have been treated for fluke. Three rounds of prazicuantel and one round of Dactymor. This fish came from China and my friend tells me that they have developed resistance because he still finds fluke in the scrape .I’m afraid these parasites will reproduce and become strong again . What should you do? Maybe treat in the future with formaline and green malaquite?

Black spot is cured by Praziquantel but treatment really isn’t necessary. The disease tends to be self limiting and typically will just go away on its own with time.

There are no red dots on any fish and never have been, although the black dots appeared months ago(also two fish got inflamed gills). In the “black spots” article you are saying treatment is not really necessary, yet they are still called “flukes”. Is there a clear distinction between the two? One requires treatment while the other does not?
